모순의 대지 antinomy

폭발적인 양적 수요를 채우기에 급급했던 캠퍼스내의 각각의 건물들은 일관된 공간적 맥락 속에서 조성되었다기보다는 개별적인 기능을 수행하는데 초점이 맞추어져왔기에 전체적 통일을 만들어내기에는 매우 취약한 구조적 관계에 놓여 있다. 특히 본 건물의 대지는 캠퍼스 조성 초기단계부터 지형적 위치나 프로그램에 있어서 캠퍼스의 중심부에 자리하고 있으나, 상호연계를 위한 제 역할을 수행하지 못한 채 오히려 이질적인 요소들 사이의 모순적 상황 속에 놓여있다. 이는 근래에 이루어졌던 경기대학교 감성캠퍼스 마스터플랜에서도 요구되는 부분이기도한데, 본 시설은 교내의 공간 네트워크를 만들어내는 구역, 혹은 ‘감성코어’로서의 역할이 규명되어져 있으며, 따라서 건축계획은 자신의 모습을 주인공으로 드러내기보다는 캠퍼스의 새로운 지형을 형성하는데 중재자로서 개입되어지기를 기대한다.

The buildings were located on campus without any systematic structure because each building constructed with a individual function rather than with a spatial coherence. Although the site was located in the heart of the topography and programme of the campus, but far from taking a role for linking between the buildings, the site was situated in contradictory. This facility acts as a "emotion core" or makes a spatial network on campus, it demanded also by the master plan for Emotion Campus of Kyonggi university. Therefore, the building plan focused on the role for mediator to draw a new topography than become landmark.

개체들의 자발적 통제 속에서도 전체의 적정한 질서가 유지된다면 이는 아마도 캠퍼스계획에 있어서 가장 이상적이고 바람직한 모델일 것이다. 이에 전체를 압도하는 절대적 논리와 개별적 자율성의 극단이 만들어내는 혼란 사이에서 ‘창조적 관계성’을 끊임없이 생산해내는 공간적 힘을 만들고자 함이 본 계획의 핵심이다. 시설은 모순의 대지 사이에 끼어 있으나, 주변을 배타하지 않고 서로를 중재하고 소통으로 이어지게 하고자하며, 이에 대한 주요 전략으로서 프로그램은 지면이하로 가라앉히고 대지를 해방시켰다. 건축물이 아닌 젊은이들의 활동으로 점유된 대지는 활기를 얻게 될 것이며, 이곳 빈 중심은 주위의 중앙도서관, 교수연구동, 제4강의동을 비롯한 이질적 요소들을 연결하는 두 개의 판 사이에서, 작은 뒷동산의 녹지와 더불어 캠퍼스의 코어 역할을 하게 될 것이다.
